Tom -
Great to see you on TV last night. I sent you an email at the BCRI address. Your appearance was well thought out and you are a pleasure to hear speak. One of the best parts was that you had the latest information on meeting schedules.

i am not that patriotic - but i like our state flag.
texas.
it has a blue vertical bar with a single star in it, and two horizontal bars - a white one (on top) and a red one (on bottom).
In the US, each state is just that, a sovereign state, not a province or district. Both Texas and Vermont were actually independent nations at one point in their history. We tend to be rather proud of our independence of states. Prior to our Civil War in the mid 1800's, this nation was often referred to as "These United States", signifying the independence of each state. After the war, the people saw the need to unite, and the phrase became "The United States" signifying more unity as a body.
As it is in Europe currently with the EU, each nation is sovereign, but they have joined forces to make the economy more stable, transactions easier and travel easier. Really, its similar to what we did 200 years ago. Sadly, along the way, each of our sovereign states allowed the federal government have a whole lot of power to dictate how they work and to control a lot of the social aspects of the states.
Just an interesting note, in most nations, the Federal Government is the highest ruler, and the districts or provinces are subordinate. In the US, the Federal Government is supposed to be subordinate to the states, but over the years that balance has changed. In our early years, the Congress was considered the most important of our ruling bodies, since it represented the people and the states. Now, we tend to see the President as more of a leader, perhaps because of increased communication.
I live in Connecticut, a tiny state near New York, and am very proud of my state (though not always of Her politics). We were one of the original 13 to break from England, and we have some great history to go with that. My in-laws come from Minnesota, in the center of the country, and will talk about "this great restaurant that has been here forever....almost 10 years! Their viewpoint changed a bit when I took them to my favorite restaurant, a tavern that was occupied by the British during our war of independence, and is still standing in much the same fashion today.
i have visited 25 of the 56 national parks in the us.
my favorites are yosemite, bryce canyon and yellowstone.. what are your favorite parks?.
I have only been to Grand Canyon, and it was uber-impressive. We went to the south rim, and managed to enjoy sunset from the eastern Yavapai Point, which was amazing. I cant wait till kids are older so we can visit more.
i know of quite a few that did , some have never been found out , are they asked by the elders before the wedding if they have done it ?
The officiating elder usually asks the night before or morning of the ceremony if there are "any reasons" that the wedding cannot be held in the KH. In their pre-nuptuial meetings, the elder tells them about these reasons which including sampling of the goods before buying them.... and also includes telling them what sort of sex they can have, and how to pray together.
a few years ago in my old hall, it was common to see brothers use props in their talks, whether it was a public talk or during one of the theo.
school talks.. now, noone uses props.. just one of the many things gone by the wayside that used to make talks more interesting..
"Is PowerPoint for true Christians?".... next month in Watchtower.
i was wondering about this the other day before i went to sleep, out of habit and my spiritual beliefs now, i spoke to the spiritual realm above and asked for guidance and protection.. i remember my journey of leaving the jw "borg" (a new term i have picked up here - i like it!
) and at first i refused to pray at all, and then i wasn't sure i wanted to or not, and then i developed my own sense of the higher power above and spirituality and every night before i sleep, i feel blessed to have another day of life, to do it all again.
even on days when i am not having such a good day, i take time to ask the higher realm for strength and direction.
I do not pray (unless the occasional "Oh God!" counts). I do however still tell people in turmoil (death, illness etc) that they are "In our thoughts and prayers." I suppose they need not know how or if I worship, those details are mine.
Richie- Where are you? Does anyone know? I am sure he can share his comments on this thread. You out there Richard?

May I suggest we change the title of this post to "Warning to GPS owners - consider looking where you are going"? I treat the GPS just like I treat my wife with a map. Trust, but confirm.
hey, the so-called "secret" or "members only" watchtower is available online at www.jw.org.
yes, it's true.
the fds is trying to control us so much, they are making it available in a top secret location; the internet!
That is really neat. The online MP3 recordings are a replacement for the WT and Awake audio tapes. They are cutting costs. I am surprised that they aren't making the magazines available in PDF format for home printing.
we have been considering a new auto.
we have one with 125,000 mi and one with 145,000. they are both doing fine but i must admit i have been tempted by the deep discounts and rebates on new models.
so i take my car to the dealer.
Try Carmax.com If you have a retail outlet near you, they are the BEST place for a high quality used car, and they will give you a fair estimate on your trade it, and even buy your car from you if you do not buy one of theirs. I will never shop anywhere else!
